At the heart of the Côtes du Rhône some 30km outside Avignon, Laurent and Sophie Pontaud look forward to welcoming you to Château de Marjolet.

The Marjolet vineyards grow in the Gard département some 30 km outside Avignon, on the right bank of the Rhône. The estate spans 80 hectares across the villages of Gaujac and Laudun.

These two villages, although only a few kilometres apart, show very different terroirs: chalky clay for Guajac and rounded pebbles for Laudun.

The Domaine has been in the hands of the Pontaud family for several generations; the first cuvee under the ‘Domaine de Marjolet’ name was bottled by Bernard Pontaud in 1978.

Gradually, with the help of his wife Françoise, Bernard converted the entire estate to vineyards, upgraded the winery and introduced a bottling unit.

Their son Laurent took over the estate in 2011; he extended the Domaine by acquiring vineyards in the village of Laudun.

Bernard and Françoise are now retired, and have handed over the running of the estate to their children. Laurent takes care of the vineyards and winery, while Sophie deals with administrative matters.
